Us Placers
Thom Yorke is the lead singer of Radiohead, and they are single handedly changing the way music is distributed to the masses. The gave away their last album "In Rainbows" and allowed fans to choose what they paid for it. Although the band did not release sales figures, estimates put the early profits at over $2 million.
Genius.

Bittersweet, You're Gonna Be The Death Of Me
Chairmen of the Board is a Detroit, Michigan based soul music group active mostly in the 1970s. The only thing I'll never understand about Ye is that he recycles songs, and that's not the problem. The problem is that the nigga recycles songs from like 5 years ago! I heard "Bittersweet" before Late Registration, and it came out as a bonus track on Graduation? Lucky for him, his songs are timeless. . . .

We Don't Care What People Say!
Easily one of my favorite tracks off College Dropout.
Gino Vannelli is an Italian-Canadian singer, songwriter, musician and composer. "I Just Wanna Stop earned Vannelli a Grammy nomination and was a top 5 hit here in the States. To this day, Vannelli still plays to sold out audiences nationwide. Vannelli is also known for being the first white performer to be on Soul Train. . . .

R.I.P. Donda West
If this post talks a little too much, let me apologize in advance. . .
I've been a Kanye fan since before I knew who Kanye was (one of my favorite songs ever is "This Can't Be Life", one of his first productions ever), and I love how I can say I was there in the beginning. Hell, I remember listening to an OLD mixtape (Hovie's Home) and hearing one of his first rhymes ever, a freestyle over LL's "Love You Better" (in fact, click here if you want it) and thinking "damn, this nigga can flow!"
I never hit a lady
But my game
Might abuse em
Buy em boots
Just to tell em
That I Jimmy Choos em
Then take em back
To confuse em
C'mon! You can't deny that genius!
When I first read that his mom died, my heart really sunk. Literally. EVERYONE knows how Kanye felt about his mom. He shouted it out everywhere! If you're like me, then you probably felt like you knew Donda well, too! And that's what makes Kanye so special. . . although he's been elevated to such high levels, you feel like you know him. He wears his heart on his sleeve, and his emotions make him so much like the average joe! Yea, he bitches and moans when he's not acknowledged, but imagine putting in all that work, and your boss doesn't give you your just due. You'd bitch, too!
So why am I such a Kanye stan? Because at the end of the day, I recognize that I, like everyone else, am a little Kanye-esque. I work hard. Give me my respect. I'm gonna speak my mind, whether you like it or not.
And I love my momma. Thiiiiiiiiiiiiiis much!

Home Is Where The Hatred Is
Gil Scott-Heron. Wow. . . what can I say about this guy, huh? No intro would do him justice. This man's words are more powerful than any gun or tank or bomb that could ever be produced. And his poetry is timeless. He is an activist, poet, and musician who is noted for his work in the 60s and 70s. "The Revolution WIll Not Be Televised" is also one of his pieces.

It's Too Late. . . It's Too Late, She's Gone. . . .
Otis Redding was born in Dawson, Georgia in 1941. According to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (where he was inducted in 1989) website, Redding's name is "synonymous with the term soul, music that arose out of the black experience in America through the transmutation of gospel and rhythm & blues into a form of funky, secular testifying. Redding passd away in 1967 at the age of 26 when his plane crashed into Lake Monona in Madison, Wisconsin.

We Got G.O.O.D. Music
What a clever name for a record label, on two levels. First, G.O.O.D. Music. It's what they make, it's what they like, it's what you like. Who doesn't like good music? But also, it's like they're bringing back good music. Because it's definitely disappeared. And who better than Kanye to bring it back.
Then, G.O.O.D. stands for Getting Out Our Dreams. It just speaks for himself. Look, I called it waaaaaay back in 2003. . . Kanye West is a genius.
