Brenda Russell is a native of Brooklyn and has written songs for numerous acts, including Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Earth, Wind & Fire, Donna Summer and Sting. In other words, she nice with the pen! She's also the original recording artist of "If Only For One Night", which most people attribute to Luther Vandross. In 2005, she co-wrote the score for the broadway run of The Color Purple.
