Mel Hardin and Tim McPherson (collectively known as. . . . Mel & Tim!) were cousins from Holly Springs, Mississippi. They moved to Chicago, where they were discovered by soul singer Gene Chandler. They had a Top Ten hit with "Backfield In Motion", but they never really had any other songs which woudl achieve the same success.
